    Plot Summary

    An inspiring science-fiction adventure, Earth to Echo captures all the mystery, excitement and wonder of an extra-terrestrial occurrence in a small Nevada suburb.  But at its heart, the movie is about friendship. Our three young heroes – Tuck, Munch and Alex – are a closely bonded trio of outcasts, whose time together is coming to an end.  Their neighbourhood is being destroyed by a highway construction project; forcing their families to move away.  Only the promise of one last thrill together – a journey into the desert to search for the source of strange and mysterious messages that have appeared on their cell phones –can distract them from their impending move.

    Plot Summary

    The film follows Gretta (Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend (Levine) who, seduced by dreams of making it in the big city, move to New York to pursue their passion for music. Heartbroken when he rejects her for the fame and fortune of a big solo contract, Gretta finds herself alone and far from home. Just when she’s decided to move back to London, life begins to look up when a down-on-his-luck record producer Dan (Ruffalo) stumbles upon her singing during an open mic night. Captivated by her raw talent and inspiring authenticity Dan persuades Gretta to take a fresh approach to making music and together they transform the streets of New York in to their recording studio, giving the city and their careers one final shot.

    In 1921 Jimmy Gralton’s sin was to build a dance hall on a rural crossroads in an Ireland on the brink of Civil War.  The Pearse-Connolly Hall was a place where young people could come to learn, to argue, to dream… but above all to dance and have fun.  As the hall grew in popularity its socialist and free-spirited reputation brought it to the attention of the church and politicians who forced Jimmy to flee and the hall to close.

    A decade later, at the height of the Depression, Jimmy returns to Co. Leitrim from the US to look after his mother and vows to live the quiet life.  The hall stands abandoned and empty, and despite the pleas of the local youngsters, remains shut.  However as Jimmy reintegrates into the community and sees the poverty, and growing cultural oppression, the leader and activist within him is stirred.  He makes the decision to reopen the hall in the face of what they may bring…
